horray for Irony
My addition to the play "Secrets and Lies"
EXT: A sidewalk by a small street one foggy evening about five o clock.
A skinny redhead in her early twenties leans against a building and takes a long drag on her cigarrette. She's wearing a miniskirt with black workboots and a baggy green sweater.
From offcamera a voice is heard: Hey!
We see a girl of the same age with messy brown hair and torn blue jeans come to stand next to the redhead.
Roxanne- What're you doin out here?
...- What kinda question is that?
Roxanne- I guess. You got a light?
~Roxanne pulls a cigarrette out of her pocket and takes the lighter from her friend.
...- So what's with you today, you look a little more upset than usual
R- oh, me mum's bein all teary and stresy lately.
~... raises an eyebrow
R- Yah but I mean for somethin different now. There's somethin shes keepin from me, its weird. She's been goin out a lot and all.
...- think maybe she found a bloke?
~Roxanne shrugs. They start walking down the sidewalk
R: I just hate how she doesn't tell me anythin. Like she's tryna shut me out of her life completely.
...- Well when are you and paul gettin a place together?
R- I dunno. Soon as i get enough money I spose. What about you, you gonna move in with Ginny or what?
...- Yah she moves into her place in a few days.
R- where you been stayin then?
...- With friends. Can't stay with Ginny and her mum, she dunno about us.
R- well ya cant blame ginny for not tellin. Its not like you didnt get kicked out for it.
...- I think it'll be good for us all to get to start over. Make a life for ourselves without parents to keep us down.
R- I hear that. Can't wait til we get out and finally have all the freedom we want.
...- Just think. stayin out as late as we want, spendin our money on whatever we want, never bein bugged about where we're goin and when we'll be back.
R- I'd feel kinda bad about leavin mum though, its only me and her brother that shes got. And he hasnt talked to her ina long time.
...- But they'll see you again on your birthday right? Is this the uncle thats totally loaded?
R- I only got one. I'm thinkin of bringin paul to the party. Everyone can meet him and everythin. It'll be great to finally get a day that's all about me.
~They stop walking outside a pub
...- Hey, cmon, I'm friendly with the owner of this place. lets go unwind for a while.
R- First define "friendly"
...- Oh, what do you care? Friendly enough to get free drinks, now cmon, lets get pissed.
~R laughs and puts an arm over her friend's shoulder and they enter the pub.
