"A Heartbreaking Work of Staggaring Genius"

So a grown man takes in his eight-year old little brother after their mother dies of cancer.
They move to Berkely where they try to have a semi-normal life but its not really working out too great on the normal-ness front. It would be like an young adult's life: trashed apartment, canned meals, late for everything, lacking in the funds... Only throw a kid into the mix and you get one ssttrraaannggee story.
That's really all I've gotten out of it so far. I'm waiting for something big to happen.
A woman to get interested in Dave, Social Services trying to take away his brother, etc etc.
As of now they're just acting like two brothers.
