SPOILER WARNING ~To kill a mockingbird
So yah, To Kill a Mockingbird was a pretty good book.
I was confused in the beginning though, because I thought it was going to be more like a Romeo and Juliet with an interracial couple. As opposed to what the story actually was: A little girl's views of her small Alabama town and how life was changed by the case of Tom Robinson.
The other interesting thing about this book was that there were two of each character for me. Or rather, everyone's skin colour kept changing. Jem and Atticus were white most of the time, but Scout and Dill were usually black. Aunty was always white and Calpurnia was always black. Miss Maudie and the old woman Jem had to read to were black but the rest of the neighbours including Boo Radley were white (except near the beginning, when the children told stories about him. Then he was black).
It didn't confuse me in the slightest that the skin colour was inconsistent. It kinda seemed like something the writer had intended.
Really the only reason I kept with it though (aside from shutting dad up) was because I needed to know how Boo Radley came into all this. The ending was satisfactory to the rest of the book. I think Boo is my favourite character just because of the mystery there. And I liked how everyone was nice to him when he finally did come out for a while.
