Maus

It was kinda odd seeing an animated historical piece, especially one depicting world war two from the eyes of a polish jew. Most of the comics I'm used to are either simple and funny, or more in the shoujo manga format.
since Im used to webcomics and the establishment, setup, punchline way of drawing, it was a little harder to get used to the continuous story in Maus. Its much more like Marvel with the several panels on one page and a basic plotline that actually moves foward.

But I like how simple it all seems. It gets the point across in pictures and words, a really easy read that also is packed with feeling and information.

The characters are animals. Nazis are cats and the Pols, mice. In the first one the family of Polish jews are hiding in a cellar that is full of rats. Vladek, the main character, asures his lover that theyre only mice, not rats, so don't be afraid.
I just thought it was interesting, they obviously were all of the opinion that they were human, but in the comic there are no homo sapiens to speak of.
