God is reality-based
Of the many approaches to dealing with the War on Terrorism, they could probably all be divided into Reality-based and... Well.. Lazy politicians who would rather make it up as they go along. The latter of the two being the easiest, I'm sure, but does it really make sense in the slightest?
As one of Mr. Bush's senior advisors puts it, "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality--judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities..."
So what I get from that is that the Bush administration plans on disregarding facts and proceeding to decide for the rest of us what's been going on in the world in the past few years.
But I seem to recall the presidential debates in which Mr Bush pointed out many times how important it was to have the best intelligence in this war.
But what's the use of that intelligence if we don't use it? Sure, it may be easier to rely on your "gut instinct" to lead the world's most powerful nation into nuclear war, but isn't it the ability to analyze facts that separates mankind from the animal kingdom? My question to you is, instead of spending our time in the Matrix playing God and trying to conjure our own new reality, why can't America just make good use of the one we already know about?
You are not Zeus, you are not Morpheus, you cannot bend the fabric of space and time and no one, in this world or the next, is going to give you that power.
I'm not saying a religious leader is a bad thing. What I'm saying is that a leader who expects to win everything without trying is a bad thing. God is there to talk to when you're alone, to listen when no one else will, to give you hope in your darkest hours, not to do everything for you. That was the deal, you live life as a fallible human. God comes to help out when you screw it up but only you can live your life. God can't think for you, that's why we have people like Karl Rove.
But, as much as you'd like to believe it, Rove does not have surpernatural powers. Even he has to look at the information to know what's going on. It's not that hard, I promise. Even my dog can take in information and do something about it. If he gets hungry he knows to go to the kitchen for his food bowl. If it's empty, he knows to come and get me. He doesn't sit in the bedroom staring at the cat like she's going to help him. It's so much easier to tell himself that he's not hungry but eventually he'll have to face the truth. That he's been waiting for someone who lives in a different world entirely to come fix all his problems when he was perfectly capable of doing it himself.
