Worse than Latin
Warren Burger~ Supreme court Justice that heard the case of Ellsberg as he tried to publish the Pentagon Papers. Although Burger voted to keep the papers secret, it was ruled 6-3 in favour of the newspapers.
Alexander Butterfield~ Was in charge of the taping system and internal security. Was suspected by a few to be "deep throat". He was the one that initially leaked about the tapeage
Archibald Cox~ Cox was a special prosecutor who was fired by Nixon after a disagree ment on how the information on the tapes should be released (Cox wanted to release the tapes to the press, whereas Nixon wanted to release "summaries" of the tapes' content). The process of firing him eventually became known as the "Saturday Night Massacre" because the first three people Nixon asked to fire him refused and resigned.
John Dean~ John Dean was the white house council who "blew the whistle" on the coverups and testified about the whole coverup process. Having been the "director" of the cover-upping, he was possibly the best person for the job of growing a conscience.
Julie Nixon Eisenhower~ Nixon's daughter. Its not quite known exactly *why* she's on this list other than her relation to the president.
Daniel Ellsberg~ Ellsberg gave the pentagon papers to the press (whic, needless to say, kinda pissed Nixon off a little bit). Liddy and Hunt (two of the Watergate breakers) broke into Ellsberg's psychiatrist's office to try to get "dirt" on him.
Loen Jaworski~ Cox's replacement prosecutor. Some thought he wouldn't be very.. "agressive" in the courtroom but they were proven wrong when he tried to get the tapes out to the public
Fred Thompson~ Minority council (opposite Sam Dash). Thompson was in charge of gathering his own information for the deflection of the guilt from the president.
Rosemary Woods~ the secretary infamous for stretching in strange ways on a regular basis
"People have a right to know if their president is a crook. Well, I am not a crook, I've earned everything I've got."
~Nixon
"What did the president know and when did he know it?"
~H Baker
"My faith in the constitution is whole, it is complete, it is total. I am not going to sit here and be idle spectator to the diminution, the subversion, the destruction of the Constitution."
"[expletive deleted]" ~That would be Nixon.
"I don't give a shit what happens, I want you all to stonewall it. let them plead the fifth Amendment, cover-up or anything else."
~Nixon, telling Mitchell to save the coverup.
"This is the operative statement, the others are inoperative."
~Mitchell, about Patrick Gray of the FBI
"My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over."
~Gerald Ford
"Its a modified limited hangout."
?
"I think, I think that uh, theres no doubt about the seriousness of the problem we, we've got. We have a cancer--" (etc)
John Dean was trying to describe a situation to Nixon without getting fired. He also wasn't sure how much the president knew about their current situation.
