Citizen Cohn

• In 1949 the U.S was shocked to find that Joseph Stalin had built an atom bomb to match America's
• Julius Rosenberg was thought to be the centre of a plot to have his lab-tech brother in law make crude drawings of critical parts of the atomic device, which was passed on to the Russians.
  
• The dominant opinion was that the evidence against Ethel Rosenberg was much weaker than that of her husband's and the case probably wouldn't have been proven beyond reasonable doubt under normal circumstances
  
• Roy Cohn and Judge Kaufman were suspected of having an ex parte. The two of them met to discuss the case outside of the knowledge of the rest of the court. There are even records of them vacationing together.
  This makes it easier to see how Cohn could have seriously influenced Kaufman's decision on the case.
  
• Roy seemed to blame Ethel the most regardless of the lack of evidence against her. He claimed that she was the stronger one of the two
  
• "I never had any doubt, not only about her guilt but I feel she was the strong one among the two of them and belonged in that case as much as he did, if not more." ~Roy Cohn
• Although the trial only lasted three weeks, the Rosenbergs weren't killed until after three years of appeals and petitions.

• Some people viewed President Roosevelt's New Deal laws to be communist-inspired. Things like social security, minimum wage standards and new taxes put restrictions on capitalism and narrowed the gap between the rich and poor.
• America reached a point of mass anti-communist hysteria during the Rosenberg trials

• The whole anti-communism thing sounds a lot like some other historical events that have taken place recently. hmmm..
• "COMMUNISTS ARE EVERYWHERE! THEY'LL SHOOT YOUR DOG! THEY'LL EAT YOUR CHILDREN! THEY HATE AMERICA! Be afraid! Be very afraid! BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!
  
• Americans were interrogated about their communist connections. If they refused to answer they were held in contempt. (Sound like any recent additions to injustice lately?)
  
• Everyone was suspicious, everyone was confused, everyone was scared of being attacked. Remind you of anything? The holocaust maybe.. Or the WTC bombings.. So easy to manipulate a nation full of scared people. You'd almost think the government was trying to keep us in fear.
